The model
Read. Do. Track. Build.
Most brain-health advice arrives as a list of things you should already be doing. Brain First is built the other way round: understand the mechanism, change one habit, keep what works.
Why start with daily habits
There is no supplement, app or single trick with an effect size close to how you sleep, eat, move and pay attention every day. Those are the levers with decades of evidence behind them — and the ones nobody can sell you in a bottle, which is roughly why they get so little airtime.
They're also the hardest to change, because they aren't decisions. They're defaults. Changing a default takes more than being told the right answer: it takes knowing what the change is supposed to do, doing it small enough to survive a bad week, and having some way to tell whether it worked for you rather than for the average participant in a study.
That's the whole model. Everything we publish is one of four moves in that sequence.
The four stages
- 01 · READBooks + Journal
Read the evidence
Books and the Journal explain each idea twice — first as something from everyday life, then as the science underneath it.
Understanding the mechanism is not a detour on the way to the advice — it is what makes the advice survive a bad week. If you know why morning light matters, you can improvise when your morning falls apart. If you only know the rule, you break it and stop.
- 02 · DOPrograms
Apply it in a program
Free, self-paced programs turn one idea into a small repeatable practice. No login, no streak-guilt.
Every program has a duration and an outcome, and every step follows the same rhythm: learn one mechanism, do one concrete thing, then check honestly whether it changed anything for you. Reading is where it starts; this is where it becomes yours.
- 03 · TRACKBrain First appIn the works
See what sticks
The Brain First App will help you track the habits you build. It's in the works — honestly not ready yet.
Programs already remember which steps you've finished, on your own device and without an account. The app will carry that further — reminders, streaks, and a record of what actually held over months rather than days. It isn't ready, and we'd rather say so than show you a fake screenshot — but the waitlist is open.
- 04 · BUILDThe six pillars
Build the lifestyle
Small changes, kept. The goal isn't a protocol — it's a way of living your brain benefits from for decades.
The six pillars — sleep, nutrition, movement, focus, stress and connection — are the daily habits the evidence keeps returning to. Nothing here is a cure or a hack. It's the unglamorous stuff, done often enough to compound.
How we handle evidence
We label how strong the evidence is, every time
Not everything in brain health is equally well established, and pretending otherwise is how self-help earns its reputation. So each piece carries one of three labels, with the criteria published rather than implied.
- Strong evidenceReplicated across multiple good-quality human studies.
- Promising evidenceConsistent human findings, but the picture is still incomplete.
- Early evidenceInteresting, not settled — treat as a hypothesis, not a plan.
What Brain First is not
Brain First is educational and wellness content. It is not medical care, it does not diagnose or treat any condition, and it is not a substitute for a clinician who knows your history.
Some of what we cover — fasting, ketogenic diets, cannabis — carries real contraindications, so those pages say so directly rather than in a footer. If something you read here seems relevant to a condition you have or a medication you take, that is a conversation to have with your doctor, not a protocol to start on your own.
Where to start
The Brain First app — the TRACK stage — isn't downloadable yet, but the waitlist is open.
